A multiple-vehicle crash involving three trucks and a car has triggered a major traffic gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with congestion stretching as far as the Toll Gate toward Ojodu Berger.

The accident occurred at Otedola, shortly before the bridge heading inward toward Berger, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in an update issued at about 1:57 p.m., saying its officers had immediately mobilised to the scene to commence rescue and evacuation operations.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other first responders were also said to be assisting with the emergency response.

According to LASTMA, the crash has resulted in a significant traffic backlog extending to the Toll Gate, affecting motorists travelling toward Berger and surrounding areas.

Traffic management officers are currently working to control the situation and facilitate the removal of the vehicles involved in the accident in order to restore normal movement along the busy expressway.

The latest incident comes amid continuing traffic challenges on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

On Tuesday, a separate accident involving a 40-foot container-laden truck reportedly occurred at the exit of Kara Bridge after the truck suffered brake failure. The incident caused significant congestion along the corridor and came amid ongoing federal repair work on the bridge’s expansion joints.

As of the latest official update, authorities have not released details concerning possible casualties or confirmed the precise cause of Wednesday’s collision.

Motorists heading toward Ojodu Berger are advised to exercise caution, expect significant delays and allow additional travel time while recovery and traffic-management operations continue.

Drivers who can do so may also consider alternative routes to avoid the affected section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
