The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST) Anifa Bello Abiodun with the IGP’s Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.

The recognition was presented on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where Disu commended the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and dedication to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.

Anifa Bello Abiodun became widely recognised for her work managing traffic in Abeokuta, where her commitment to duty and consistent interaction with members of the public earned her appreciation from residents and road users.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, her professional conduct and dedication to duty culminated in public recognition of her service and contribution to the communities where she worked.

Speaking during the presentation, IGP Disu said members of the public tend to appreciate the Police when officers carry out their responsibilities professionally and responsibly.

He noted that public dissatisfaction is often associated with cases of misconduct, while officers who demonstrate professionalism and responsible conduct can strengthen the relationship between the Police and the communities they serve.

The IGP expressed satisfaction that Abiodun had earned the respect and recognition of the community where she served, describing her record of service as an example of the values expected from police personnel.

Disu also stressed that accountability must go hand in hand with recognition. While the Police Force would continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct, he said officers who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and exemplary service should also be recognised and rewarded.

According to the police leadership, recognising personnel who distinguish themselves through dedicated service helps reinforce professional standards within the Force and encourages other officers to uphold their responsibilities.

The award comes shortly after public attention surrounding Abiodun’s retirement and her years of traffic management service in Abeokuta. Earlier in September, former Ogun State Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi had described her as a familiar and respected figure in Abeokuta traffic management, citing her discipline, patience and commitment to duty.

The Nigeria Police Force said the recognition reflects its commitment to accountability, exemplary conduct and rewarding personnel whose dedication to duty contributes to effective policing and strengthens public confidence.

The statement announcing the award was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on September 17, 2026.
