Nigerian football star Samuel Chukwueze was seen paying his last respects at his late mother’s wake-keep last night, as the family prepares to lay her to rest today, Friday, May 29, 2026.The 59-year-old Prophetess (Dr.) Mrs. Serah Chinyere Chukwueze (née Onyegbule) passed away earlier this year after a brief illness. Her son, Super Eagles and Fulham forward Samuel Chukwueze, along with other family members, gathered for the emotional wake-keep service on Thursday night in Umuahia. The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place today in Umuahia, Abia State, bringing together family, friends, football colleagues, church members, and sympathizers to honour the life of the respected spiritual leader, mother, and grandmother. Her passing was first confirmed months ago by Chukwueze’s brother, David Chukwueze, who shared emotional tributes on social media. The news drew condolences from across Nigeria, including from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the football community, who described the late Prophetess as a devoted and impactful woman.
