BREAKING: Alleged Delta Kidnap Kingpin Abubakar Usman Arrested After Forest Gun Battle, Mother of Five Rescued

Security operatives in Delta State have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping following the arrest of an alleged notorious kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, after a fierce gun battle in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.

The operation, carried out by joint forces from the Delta State Police Command and the SafeCity Security Service, also led to the successful rescue of a kidnapped mother of five, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, who was abducted along a farm road in Aniocha South Local Government Area.

The development has sparked renewed hope among residents as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating across communities in Delta State.

According to reports, the operation began after the abduction of Mrs. Chiedu, also known as Blessing Chukwuyem, a native of Umunede Kingdom, on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku.

Her abductors were said to have demanded a ransom of ₦100 million before security agencies launched a coordinated response.

Human rights activist and SafeCity Security Service spokesperson, Harrison Gwamnishu, reportedly alerted the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor.

Using intelligence gathered through the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, security operatives commenced a rescue operation aimed at locating the victim and tracking down the criminal gang.

Mrs. Chiedu was later rescued alive and unharmed on July 7 near the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road area. Reports suggested that negotiations may have taken place between the kidnappers and the victim’s family, although security sources maintained that the rescue operation played a major role in her recovery.

Forest Operation Leads to Arrest of Suspected Kidnap Leader

Following intelligence gathered after the rescue, security operatives traced the suspected kidnappers to a hideout deep inside the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.

On the morning of July 8, officers stormed the location, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire as the suspected criminals attempted to resist arrest.

The security team eventually overpowered the gang and arrested Abubakar Usman alive, while other suspected members reportedly escaped into the surrounding forest with their weapons.

Usman is alleged to be the leader of a kidnapping syndicate linked to several abductions across Igbodo, Umunede, and neighbouring communities, where victims’ families were reportedly forced to pay huge sums of money in ransom.

Suspect Allegedly Reveals Possible Wider Network

During preliminary questioning, Usman reportedly claimed that the gang was not operating alone.

He allegedly told investigators that members of the group were involved in cattle rearing and received instructions from an unnamed “Alhaji” based in Abuja.

Security authorities are expected to investigate the claim and determine whether the suspect’s allegations reveal links to a wider criminal network.

Security Stakeholders Praise Operation

Harrison Gwamnishu commended the collaboration between security agencies, local intelligence networks, and community members, describing the operation as a major step toward improving safety in Delta State.

He also praised the efforts of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police, and other security stakeholders for supporting measures aimed at tackling kidnapping and banditry.

The Delta State Police Command is yet to release a detailed official statement on the arrest, but authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.

Security operatives are currently pursuing fleeing members of the gang while efforts are ongoing to uncover more information about the activities and connections of the suspected criminal network.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping incidents in parts of Nigeria, with security agencies under increasing pressure to dismantle criminal groups and restore confidence among residents.
