Nick Walker has finally reached the summit of professional bodybuilding, winning the 2026 Mr. Olympia Men’s Open title after a dramatic showdown with Samson Dauda and defending champion Derek Lunsford in Las Vegas.
Walker, popularly known as “The Mutant,” claimed his first-ever Sandow Trophy on Saturday, September 26, overcoming a stacked field of bodybuilding stars at the Orleans Arena during the 62nd Mr. Olympia competition.
The victory represents the biggest achievement of Walker’s career and a remarkable turnaround after he finished sixth at the 2025 Olympia.
The American entered this year’s competition determined to prove that he could overcome the weaknesses that had previously prevented him from capturing the sport’s biggest prize.
This time, Walker delivered the complete package.
His combination of exceptional muscle mass, improved conditioning, tighter midsection control, structure and stage presentation helped him edge two of the biggest threats in the competition.
Samson Dauda finished second, while two-time defending champion Derek Lunsford had to settle for third.
The result brought an end to Lunsford’s reign as Mr. Olympia and denied him the opportunity to become the first three-time champion since Phil Heath.
Walker Takes Control of a Tight Contest
The battle began to take shape during Friday’s prejudging, when Walker, Dauda, Lunsford and Andrew Jacked emerged as the leading contenders.
Walker and Lunsford spent significant time in the centre of the stage as judges compared the leading athletes, while Dauda also made a strong case for the title with his size, fullness and conditioning.
The final showdown on Saturday was equally intense, with the leading contenders trading poses during the mandatory comparisons and final posedown.
Dauda produced a particularly strong performance during the finals, but Walker’s consistency across the competition ultimately proved decisive.
The official scorecard reflected just how close the contest was, with Walker finishing on 18 points, Dauda on 20 and Lunsford on 24.
In bodybuilding, the lowest score wins, meaning Walker’s narrow advantage over Dauda was enough to secure the Sandow Trophy.
$600,000 Prize for Walker
Walker’s historic victory came with a $600,000 first-place prize, while Dauda and Lunsford collected the second- and third-place purses respectively.
The result also added another major milestone to Walker’s career after years of competing among the sport’s elite.
His previous best Olympia finish came in 2022, when he placed third. A sixth-place finish in 2025 appeared to raise further questions about whether he could ever put together the complete package required to win the Olympia.
Walker answered those questions emphatically in Las Vegas.
